Wendy, the one thing that stands out for me was that Mr. Grubb had a very strong preference for anything British over American. He encouraged us to use British spelling and vocabulary.

My brother Daniel and I were in Princess Sophia School for a couple of years. I was in Miss Falk’s class and then Mr. Grubb’s class in ‘73 or ‘74 and remember Angelo with his motorcycle, Eleni(Kuku), Gad and Shalom. I also remember Samuel and his sister Birikti, Senait (Salahadin’s cousin), Edna, Sefanit and her brother Mengesha , Abaytana, Mekonen, Nefisa and Shabir. I remember Debritu, Princess Sophia’s niece too and always wondered what happened to her.
I have contact with Salahadin. We enrolled in another school when Princess Sophia school was closed down suddenly right after the revolution. It was chaotic as people had to scramble to find schools.

Paul, your Daddy, Martin Schwartz taught chemistry and I was one of his students. He was an outstanding teach, who put a lot of his time to help us succeed. After I joined Addis Ababa University, we worshiped at the Baptist Evangelical Church located in Arat Kilo and that was 52 years ago and I remember you too. I live in the USA with my wife and children and grand children. General Wingate High School was a great place for studies in humanities and sciences. The two prime ministers of Ethiopia, Tesfaye Dinqa and Meles Zenawi were products of the School. Another alumni, the prolific great writer Be'alu Girma, and the great scholar Haile Fida were victim of the 1974 Socialist Revolution of Ethiopia. Great School produced great souls. The communist revolutionaries converted the School to carpentry and masonry workshop --Misuse of resources!
